The ultimate goal for a DJ is to
create something magical with the audience, to make time
stop, to create a natural high, or more down to earth,
at least give the crowd a great time. Meri is a DJ that
never falters to reach such a goal!
He first became entranced with
dance music in the early 90’s, and fell in love with this
unique culture so entirely that it became a big part of
his everyday life. Starting as a hobby by learning to
mix back in 1994, it built into a full time career in
the music industry when Meri opened Chunes in 1997, now
one of the longest running independent record shops in
the UK. Chunes offers a quality selection of upfront vinyl
from across the dance spectrum along with an ever growing
back catalogue of music, a large range of CD’s and DJ
Supplies. Meri’s love of music and determination to succeed
has meant he never gives up without a fight. Instead of
closing shop in the face of music downloads and rising
rent, in 2005 Chunes.net was launched to complement the

Owning a record store has made
it easy for Meri to develop an extensive vinyl library
allowing him great variety in his sets, and with his talents
and understanding of music he is able build a set through
a broad spectrum of genre’s from house, breaks and trance
to funky techno, hard techno and schranz.... sounds ranging
from the most beautiful of melodies to the hardest, darkest
sounds you could imagine! This unique ability of being
able to build a set has landed Meri warm up sets for some
big names such as the Tidy Boys and Lab 4
.
Meri’s knowledge of music has broadened
to such a depth that he is now able to teach the next
generation of musicians. He has been involved in the development
of youth music since 2002 by teaching at BPM, a DJ school
which offers free courses in the basics of becoming a
DJ along with more advanced lessons in music production.
Meri has had numerous guest slots
and residencies during his career including sets at such
prestigious events as Laboratory “experiment 2” @ Shepherd’s
Bush), Laboratory “experiment 3” @ Brixton Academy and
Q Dance in Amsterdam playing to crowds of over 4500. He
also spent four years as resident DJ and Promoter of The
Country Club, a club that conjures near mythological references
and fond memories of unforgettable nights for thousands
of clubber’s. His ability to be able to market dance music
events to a very much underground scene for the country
club has proved resourceful in organising and promoting
his own night ‘Exotic’ @ Banus, which really helped to
put Weymouth on the clubbing map with guests such as DJ
Proteus, Mark EG, Dave The Drummer, Carbon Based, Ephexis,
Alex Calver and Lab 4.
Meri became an official member
of Bare Cheek Recordings in 2007 bringing maturity, wisdom
and his unique talent to the record label and now continues
to build his empire at Chunes, promote his own nights
wherever possible, and DJ taking his audience on a musical
journey, be it in trance, techno, schranz or mixture of
them all.

it takes to truly succeed in the music industry!
