Dope Jon Paul is the living embodiment
of the perfect gentlemen, DJ diplomat, strewed businessman
and a progressive music pioneer. Over the past two decades
he’s been on a journey that’s taken him all across Europe,
consistently wowing crowds with his technically brilliant,
distinctly unique mixing style and energy behind the decks.
His sets are always fresh, original and well thought about,
combining upfront house and progressive tracks.
Just a small description of Jon’s
journey, so far, reads like an autobiography, hallmarked
with accolades people can only dream of achieving. It
begins back in the days of electro and acid jazz when
he first discovered turntable’ism, he instantly fell mind,
body and soul in love with the new form of musical art.
At 17 Jon spread his wings and moved to Torremolinos on
the Costa Del Sol, Spain, and got work in the “Factory
Bar” spinning acid – jazz, combining elements of soul
music, funk and disco. He was soon being asked to DJ in
well known Spanish club “Splash”. Jon left the “Factory
Bar” to DJ seven nights a week in Splash nightclub, this
exposure gave him a huge fan base of hundreds of people.
When he reached the age of 20 Jon moved from Spain to
Finland, where he opened his own bar “Boom Shaka”, in
Karjaa. In his little empire Jon would spend much of his
time on the decks, if he wasn’t here then he was at home
putting together his own studio to work on music production.
Dope Jon Paul has always excelled in his production work,
as well as writing new tracks he has created many remix’s
of some of his favourite tunes. He produced three remix’s
of songs by Aaro Seppovaara’s band the Screaming Ayatolla’s
and they loved his work so much they included them on
their album.

Beginning a new chapter in his
journey, Dope Jon Paul moved from Karjaa to Finland’s
capital city Hellsinki and eager to pursue a career in
the music industry, he organised and promoted his own
nights called “X-Club” every Saturday night at the Nylon
club, impressed with his creation and the way he ran the
nights the club owner made Jon his manager. In 1996 he
moved up to Yyteri, Finland to run a nightclub in hotel
Merimaalima. It was here this talented DJ was spotted
and asked to play at the legendary Pori Jazz Festival,
the celebrations centre on the scenic parklands on the
banks of the Kokemäki River and is attended by around
130, 000 people. Dope Jon Paul was there along side the
group Zap Mama, one of the most popular World Music ensembles
on the planet. In 1998 Jon Paul moved from Finland to
Jersey, and played his truly-loved sound of progressive
house weekly at “The Venue”, also concentrating on his
production work. He has since moved to Weymouth on the
South West Coast where he continues his love affair with
music and DJ’ing and has joined us at Bare Cheek Recordings.
This brings us to the present day but his journey is far
from over, we can expect to see Jon’s list of attributes
grew for many years to come.
Since his humbling beginnings as
a DJ he has played alongside hugely respected DJ’s such
as Sven Väth, Josh Wink, DJ Borzin, Jens Malmstedt, Proteus,
Mark EG, Dave The Drummer, Carbon Based, Ephexis, Alex
Calver and Lab 4, Iain Cross, The BCR BoyZ and Meri at
some of Europe’s most prestigious clubs.
